Frequently Asked Questions
What does a speech session look like?
The best learning happens through joy, play, and connection. That’s why every session is play-based and child-led, meaning your child is in the driver’s seat, exploring activities that spark their curiosity while naturally building communication skills.
From the moment I arrive, your child will be engaged in play that feels fun and effortless—but every game, toy, and interaction is carefully chosen to support their language development. Whether we’re building a tower, pretending to cook, or chasing bubbles, we are weaving in opportunities for your child to learn new words, expand their sentences, and build confidence in expressing themselves.
Instead of focusing on what’s “missing,” I build on your child’s strengths and personal interests to create a positive learning experience. If they love dinosaurs, we’ll roar our way through language practice. If cars are their thing, we’ll zoom into new communication skills. By following their lead, I keep them engaged and motivated—so much so that they don’t even realize they’re learning!
Most importantly, I celebrate the small steps. Every new word, every attempt, every moment of connection is a win. Speech therapy isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress, confidence, and joyful communication.
Together, your child will feel heard, empowered, and SPROUT!
What does feeding therapy look like?
My goal is to help children build a healthy, positive relationship with food in a way that feels safe, empowering, and enjoyable. Every session is guided by the child’s own pace and comfort level, ensuring they feel in control of their food choices while exploring new tastes, textures, and experiences. When I arrive for our session, I will create a calm, sensory-friendly environment designed to take the pressure off eating. There’s no forcing, no tricking, and no stress—just curiosity, play, and discovery. We start by engaging with food in a way that feels natural and fun, whether that means touching, smelling, or simply observing before taking a bite. Your child will be encouraged to listen to their body and make choices about what they feel ready to explore. I’ll guide them through understanding how food feels, looks, and moves, so they develop confidence in what they choose to put in their mouth. If they’re not ready to taste something, that’s okay! Progress isn’t just about eating—it’s about building trust and comfort with food at their own pace.
Throughout the session, we’ll use playful strategies to make food feel approachable, from making shapes to crunching crackers like dinosaurs. Every small step—whether it’s touching a new food or taking a tiny taste—is celebrated. Over time, this approach helps children feel empowered, confident, and in control, laying the foundation for lifelong healthy eating habits to SPROUT!
What is PROMPT therapy?
PROMPT stands for "PROMPTS for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets." It is a multidimensional approach to speech production disorders has come to embrace not only the well-known physical-sensory aspects of motor performance, but also its cognitive-linguistic and social-emotional aspects. Many children with Apraxia of Speech, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Cerebral Palsy benefit from PROMPT therapy. This approach will be embedded into therapy as I see fit.
Can I watch my child's session?
Absolutely! I encourage parents and caregivers to join in on sessions to better understand and confidently use the strategies in your daily routines, in between sessions. However, if you feel that your child easily distracted by you being physically present, we can set aside a dedicated time at the end of each session to go over the strategies that are currently being implemented and any current concerns you may have.
Is my child too young for therapy?
You, as a parent, know your child best. If you feel that something is "off" or are concerned that your child missed a milestone, don't wait. Contact us today for a free consultation for our professional opinion on whether we should move forward. Early intervention is often considered best for addressing delays.
What ages do you work with?
I specialize in early intervention (birth to 3 years) but I also work with older children depending on your child's unique needs.
Do you accept insurance?
I am a private pay practice, but I provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. It’s always a good idea to contact your insurance provider beforehand to understand your coverage and determine how much reimbursement they may provide. This ensures you have a clear picture of your benefits and any out-of-pocket costs.
